From the Maker;
I have loved knives since the first one I was given, as a boy of 9 years old. They are the single, most useful tool invented. My passion took a turn a couple of years ago when I started making knives as a hobby. This "hobby" is now growing into something more. There is great number of people who share my love of knives, and I want to share my knives with you.
I have an extensive background in the use of knives, both as utility and tactical tools. I was raised on a farm in Tennessee. I have raised crops and livestock, as well as camped, hunted and fished all of my life. I have trained in martial and tactical arts for over 30 years. I hold a 5th Degree Black Belt and have retired from teaching. My weapons studies included 15 years training in Philippine arts, which centered around the stick and the knife. I have trained hundreds of students, many were police, military and security personnel, in the use of bladed techniques.
This resume doesn't make me the best maker, but it does give me an insight as to what is required from a good knife, a drive to make the best knife I can, and give a value to those who choose my knives. I carry at least one of my blades daily. If I can not trust my blades, why should you?
I wish your custom knifemaking experience to be positive and informative. Due to shop and expertise limitations, I may decline a custom order. In a such case, I will, if requested, recommend another maker that may be better suited for the request.
Knives were one of man's first tools. Everyone should own one (or two....).

DFarmer Knives has been featured in Tactical Knives magazine, September 2009 issue, under the Blademaster Profile. Reviewed was three of my chopper and camp knives, the Klewang, the Golok and the Dangerous Curves (golok jr.).
I want to thank TK for the nice article. TK staff was great to work with and very patient. Please get this magazine and read the article.
Materials
Blade Steel
I use 1095 high carbon steel in my chopping blades. It is a proven steel, tough, strong and field-worthy. It holds a keen edge and is easy to maintain. I use a convex grind. This grind is easy to sharpen and is very strong.
I use O1 tool steel for the smaller blades. O1 is an oil quench tool steel that provides for an excellent perfoming blade. I use a convex grind. This grind is easy to sharpen and is very strong.
I also work in some damascus steels. Damascus is a forge welding of different steels. It produces a pattern that is amazing. Email me for more information on the damascus available.
Handles
I prefer natural materials, wood and bone. I have a variety of woods available. At times, I also have bone, antlers, and horn materials available.
I have recently begun using G 10 and micarta. Email me for those materials available.
Sheaths
I make leather sheaths to fit my knives. These are basic pouch sheaths and "danglers".
Sheaths for larger knives are extra, and I have some leather workers that I use. They make beautiful sheaths at a great value.
